Message to everyone reading my Cartoon Blog feed
Dear Cartoon Blog readers,
If you read the Cartoon Blog feed I am hoping that you will get this message.
The CartoonChurch site has been down for nearly four days, for which I apologise wholeheartedly. I am told that a major technical problem is to blame. I have set up a backup website here: http://cartoonchurch.wordpress.com/. I have posted some cartoons for subscribers and will be maintaining my blog at this address until my main site is mended. I will of course post any information about the re-emergence of the CartoonChurch site as soon as I hear it.
My CartoonChurch e-mail address is also broken, meaning that I have not received any messages sent since Sunday. I have posted an e-mail address which works on the backup site above should you wish to send or resend any messages. Apologies for not having replied to the messages that will have arrived during this time.
This feed should pick up all of the new updates to the backup website so you shouldn’t need to change any feed details or anything like that.
Thanks for your patience.
Dave
Message to Cartoon Blog readers
[Message now posted in a new post]
Please excuse the confusion – I’m trying to make the feed from this site visible on the feed from my main Cartoon Blog. It is all proving terribly complex.
Welcome
As regular readers of my site will have noticed CartoonChurch.com and the Cartoon Blog have been down since Sunday morning. I’ve written more about the technical reasons for this on this page. I’m hoping that by spending time and effort making a backup site I will persuade the proper site to stop working again.
My usual CartoonChurch e-mail addresses have also been broken – this means that I have not seen any e-mail sent to me on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and today. If you want to send or resend an e-mail please do so using the address given on this page. I’ve given a mobile number there too, or there is my usual mobile and telephone if you know them.
I’m aware that this has caused inconvenience to all manner of people, not least those who have paid for the use of my cartoons. I’ve posted a number of cartoons with high resolution versions on this site, so that there is hopefully something there for anyone who needs a cartoon urgently for a parish magazine. If you need a particular cartoon or a cartoon on a particular subject then e-mail me and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can (make sure you use this address).
I’m hoping that this site won’t be required for very long, but unfortunately I really have no idea how long it will be. I will of course post here when the site comes back, and I will keep this as a backup in case the same thing happens again.
Former SPCK shop latest
I’m hearing that there have been some developments in the former SPCK shops saga – feel free to use the comments to this post to discuss them if you know more than I do.
In the meantime this is a report that appears on the front page June edition of the ‘Outlook’ Canterbury Diocesan newspaper – a link to a a larger version of the text is here.

Phil Groom has posted about various former SPCK/SSG-related articles in Christian Marketplace here.
Why CartoonChurch.com is broken
The CartoonChurch.com website and the Cartoon Blog have been broken since Sunday morning, June 1 2008.
This is the message I have from my web hosts, whose technical announcements page is here:
There has been a major problem at the datacenter where our cougar server is located, which has affected both the routing and electrical supplies to the server. We are still awaiting a response to our outstanding tickets regarding an exact time that the problems are likely to be resolved, but in the meantime we will continue to monitor the situation. We apologise for the problems customers on this server are affecting, and will be re-evaluating our use of this datacenter in the future following this severe outage.
Also:
We have been chasing the datacenter for more information but as yet they are unable to establish an ETA. They are showing progress and are obviously working to get things back up a.s.a.p. Should you wish to see their status page the link is: http://service-update.theplanet.com/
